This weekend, X94 radio station and Red Fleet State Park are hosting the annual Red Fleet Paddlefest, a two-day, free summer event.
Paddlefest kicks off at noon on Friday, June 14. Festival-goers can park at the upper parking lot at Red Fleet where three shuttle buses will run people from the parking lot to the party all weekend.
Activities include 2 incredible days on the water at Red Fleet State Park. People will be able to try stand up paddle boarding (SUP’s), canoeing and kayaking with free equipment rentals.
A giant water slide will be set up on the boat ramp, and there will be guided Dinosaur Trackway tours, vendors and food trucks.
There will be a one-armed paddleboard race per day (Friday and Saturday) which will start at 2 p.m. in honor of John Wesley Powell, a Civil War Veteran, and amputee who explores the Green River from Colorado down through the Grand Canyon as part of the Powell Expedition’s 150th Anniversary.
Eight people can sign up for each race. There will not be an age requirement to participate, participants will use a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) to paddle over to the dinosaur track site (using both arms to paddle if desired). The race will start from there and the participants will have to use one designated hand/arm to paddle back to the boat dock. First one there wins. 1st place wins $25, 2nd place wins $10, 3rd place wins $10.
A homemade raft contest is offering prizes of $500 for adults and $100 for kids. Judging will commence Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The 5K race registration is at 7:30 Saturday morning with an 8 a.m. start. The race ends by sliding down the water slide on the boat ramp, and those entering the race will be the first ones at Paddlefest on Saturday.
Live music will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will showcase the bands: Danny Rose, Phoenix Moon, Joye Lynn Blues, Fear and Mistrust, Vinyl, and Redlands.
The weekend festivities will end with a firework display over the water at 10 p.m. before busses take people back out to their cars.
Campsites are available at Red Fleet on a first come first served basis.
A special thanks to all volunteers, sponsors, and vendors who made this event possible.
